Over 7,200 students conferred degrees at Jamia Hamdard convocation

New Delhi, April 17

Jamia Hamdard conferred degrees on more than 7,200 students at its 15th convocation ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan on April 16.

A total of 7,202 students received undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral degrees, while 109 postgraduate students from the Centre for Distance and Online Education were also awarded degrees, according to Controller of Examinations Syed Saud Akhtar. The university presented 250 gold medals to students for academic performance.

Dr. K. P. Hussain was conferred the Doctor of Sciences (Honoris Causa) for contributions to medicine, healthcare innovation and philanthropy.

The ceremony was presided over by Chancellor Hammad Ahmed and attended by public representatives, academics, diplomats and members of the university’s statutory bodies.

In his address, Vice Chancellor M. Afshar Alam referred to the institution’s performance in national and international rankings. In the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2025, the university secured the first rank in pharmacy, while it was placed 40th in the medical category, 87th in management, 47th among universities and 74th overall. In the QS World Subject Rankings 2026, its pharmacy and pharmacology programme was ranked 59th globally.

The Vice Chancellor said faculty members had secured research funding from government agencies including the Department of Science and Technology, Indian Council of Medical Research and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, among others, as well as industry partners. He also noted the establishment of a 5G use case laboratory at the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology.

Registrar Tahir Mustafa said the convocation reflected the university’s focus on academic standards, research and institutional development. He expressed confidence that graduating students would contribute across sectors.

The ceremony concluded with the National Anthem.
