‘Write the Truth, But Let Criticism Be Constructive’: Azharuddin to Journalists

Hyderabad, Aug. 1: Calling upon journalists to uphold the highest standards of responsible journalism, Telangana Minister Mohammed Azharuddin on Saturday urged the media to write the truth fearlessly while ensuring that criticism remains constructive and aimed at strengthening society.

Addressing the 10th anniversary celebrations of the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Federation in Hyderabad, the Minister said journalists have a vital role in democracy and should continue to hold governments accountable through fair and factual reporting.

“Write the truth. Criticize wherever necessary, but let the criticism be constructive. Do not criticize merely for the sake of criticism. Such criticism discourages those who genuinely want to work for the people,” he said.

Azharuddin assured the gathering that he would take up the issue of installing Urdu signboards and public information boards with the Chief Minister and work towards addressing the concerns of the Urdu-speaking community.

Reiterating his commitment to public service, the Minister said he would strive to protect every inch of government land and work tirelessly for the welfare of journalists and the people of Telangana.

“I will work harder than I did on the cricket field to serve the people as a minister,” he said.Seeking the cooperation of the media, Azharuddin urged journalists to support initiatives that benefit society while continuing to provide honest feedback to the government.

Reflecting on his personal values, he said he had no desire for luxuries or the trappings of office.”I am not interested in a big house or moving around with security. I am a practical person with a clean heart and no place for revenge. It is your blessings and prayers that have brought me to this position,” he remarked.

The Minister also recalled the tragic accident involving his son, saying the experience had strengthened his resolve to serve people with sincerity and compassion.

“I am not afraid of criticism, nor do I want to distance myself from the media. Journalists help ministers, public representatives and even sportsmen like us move forward. Your talent and contribution deserve respect,” he said.

He assured the gathering that the issues concerning Urdu journalists would be addressed at the earliest and appealed to the fraternity to remain united in promoting truth and public welfare.

“There can be mistakes; it is only human to err. Point them out, but do so with the intention of correcting them, not merely to find fault,” he said.Later, Azharuddin presented cash awards and citations to distinguished journalists in recognition of their contribution to Urdu journalism.

Among those present on the occasion were TMREIS Chairman Faheem Qureshi, who made a brief appearance, senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir, Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Federation (TUWJF) President M.A. Majid, General Secretary Md. Ghouse, office-bearers of the Federation, and Urdu journalists from Hyderabad and various districts across Telangana.
