London Ijtema: Amazing but Humbling

Alhamdulillah, the London Ijtema was a remarkable reminder of how Allah SWT accepts sincere efforts. Organizing such a massive gathering away from major cities, in a small and unfamiliar town, required extraordinary sacrifice and dedication. The narrow roads of a small English town witnessed tens of thousands of people arriving solely for the pleasure of Allah.

What moved me most was the enthusiasm of the youth, dressed in Sunnah attire, and the atmosphere filled with adhans, inspiring talks, Qur’an recitation, dhikr, and heartfelt du‘as. Despite the heat and the long journeys, people came with only one purpose: to seek Allah’s pleasure, His forgiveness, and steadfastness upon deen.

As I observed the ordinary attendees, I was reminded of Allah’s words:

“And keep yourself patiently with those who call upon their Lord morning and evening, seeking His pleasure.” (Surah Al-Kahf 18:28)

The older workers and pioneers have made immense sacrifices in establishing this noble work, and we appreciate their efforts. Yet true acceptance and recognition belong only to Allah SWT. Concern for others is a blessing, but acceptance comes only from Him.

Personally, I felt that remaining among the common people—the sincere, God-fearing, and humble believers—brings greater opportunities to please Allah than seeking acknowledgment from creation.

Approximately 60,000 people attended, around 260 jama‘ats set out, and nearly 10,000–15,000 cars were parked. The prayers, Jumu‘ah, and overall arrangements were exceptional. On the day of du‘a, the police eventually had to close the roads as even more people were expected to arrive.

May Allah SWT accept everyone’s sacrifices, grant us sincerity, and keep us steadfast on His path.

Alhamdulillah.
