12822 School Going Orphans Benefit Through Zakat Trust Scholarship

Hyderabad, May 25: A whopping 12,822 school going orphans have benefited from the scholarships issued by Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust (HZCT) in a year, said Chairman HZCT Mr. Ghiasuddin Babukhan. Releasing the trust’s annual report at Annual Meet and Iftar organized by the trust, Mr. Babukhan said “around Rs 4.5 crore were spent by the trust in these scholarships in just one year, in addition to nearly 20 lakh rupees distributed by the trust in the form of scholarships for post matric and professional courses benefitting 173 people. HZCT also distributed nearly 12,000 food packs among students including orphans as parts of its Ramzan programme.

Every year, the Hyderabad Zakat and Charitable Trust supports the impoverished and the weaker sections of the society, with major portion of funds to educate the deserving and the needy. 103 Urdu medium schools and 3 English medium schools are supported by the trust in Telangana and Rayalseema with a total strength of 25,000 students. 72% of these students are girls. This year, total amount spent under school education project is Rs.1.08 crores., he said.

“The Zakat trust aims to socially, educationally and financially empower the society through these initiatives”, he said adding that “the trust has distributed about 12,000 food packs among students, including orphans and widow families during this Ramadan along with 3,724 Eid cloth packs containing 2 sarees, and dresses for 2 orphan children to widows while 3,500 fitra packs are planned for distribution during last week of Ramadan with the trust’s total Ramadan projects costing Rs. 1.46 crores.

Furthermore, 316, SSC standard meritorious girl students of government schools who secured at least 9.3 GPA and 9.5GPA for private school girls, were awarded with Rs.10,000 each

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Editor Siasat Daily said “interfaith meetings and Eid Milap programmes are an important necessity in the current scenario of the country.” Secretary Sultan ul Uloom Education Society Mr. Zafar Javeed appreciated the trust’s ‘noble initiatives’.

Mr. Ali Hyder presented the financial report while Chairman of FEED Mr. Abdul Aleem Khan, HZCT Secretary Mr. Ziauddin Nayyar, Mr. Khaleel Ahmed and others were also present on this occasion.

In 2018-19, nearly 1,23,148 people benefitted from these schemes. During the last 27 years, the trust spent an amount of
Rs.123.00 crores on 13,22,904 beneficiaries.
