UK a preferred destination for Indian students: British Deputy High Commissioner

HYDERABAD

The United Kingdom continues to attract a record number of Indian students, with over 100,000 choosing the country for higher education annually, according to Gareth Owen, British Deputy High Commissioner to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Speaking at the ‘Achievers Dialogues’ program, Mr. Owen highlighted the UK’s academic standing, noting that 17 of the world’s top 100 universities are located there, with four in the top 10. He attributed the sustained interest to the high quality of education, the international experience provided to overseas students, and the accelerated pace of postgraduate degrees. “A postgraduate degree in the UK typically takes 12 months, compared to two years in many other countries,” Mr. Owen stated, emphasizing the efficiency for students.

The event, organized by the Sultan ul Uloom Education Society in collaboration with Global Tree, facilitated a convergence of 43 universities under one roof, providing students with direct access to academic representatives.

Zafar Javeed, Secretary of the Sultan ul Uloom Education Society, encouraged the attending students to make optimal use of their talent and explore the various meritorious scholarships available at these institutions. Dr. Anupama Koneru, Principal of the Sultan ul Uloom College of Pharmacy, noted that the event allowed for meaningful teacher-student interactions, helping prospective applicants understand the academic and cultural environment in the UK.

The dialogue also featured World Para Badminton champion Mansi Joshi, who underscored the importance of building a robust support network and cultivating the habit of networking during challenging points in one’s career, drawing from her own experiences .Nalini Raghuraman , Political Advisor to the British Deputy High Commission,  Global Tree Managing Director Srikar Alapati, Director Shubkar, Nirupama Advisor  National Indian Students and Alumni Union (NISAU) UK, Omer Javeed and others.
