AIMPLB chief inaugurates legal aid, family counselling centres in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, July 25: All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani on Saturday inaugurated the Milli Legal Aid Centre and Mahalla Family Counselling Centre at Abids, an initiative aimed at providing free legal assistance, family counselling and mediation services to economically weaker sections.

The centres, established under the guidance of Mufti Omer Abedeen Qasmi, general secretary of the All India Milli Council (Telangana), will offer legal guidance, counselling and mediation to help resolve family and social disputes through dialogue and reconciliation, with the objective of reducing avoidable litigation.

Addressing the gathering, Rahmani described counselling families, reconciling estranged spouses and extending legal support to the underprivileged as an important social service. He appreciated the efforts of the advocates and counsellors associated with the initiative and said peaceful settlement of disputes strengthens families and society.

Mufti Omer Abedeen Qasmi said the centres had already helped resolve several family disputes through counselling and mediation without prolonged court proceedings. He said many couples had been reunited through dialogue and mutual understanding, and reiterated the organisation’s commitment to ensuring that legal guidance remains accessible to deserving people.

Advocate Momin Roshan Zameer, State General Secretary of the TPCC Legal Cell and a member of the Hyderabad Waqf Protection and Coordination Committee, said the centre had been assisting people facing legal and social difficulties by providing guidance and counselling. He urged families to explore mediation and reconciliation before approaching the courts, saying amicable settlements often help preserve relationships while saving time and resources.

Several advocates, social workers, volunteers and community representatives attended the inauguration.

The programme concluded with a call for strengthening legal awareness, encouraging mediation as an effective mechanism for dispute resolution, and expanding access to free legal assistance for poor and vulnerable sections of society.
