Curtains Draw Over AFMI’s 26th Annual 2-Day International Convention

Hyderabad-based Indian American Psychiatrist Elected as AFMI President

Curtains drew on the 26th annual international convention of American Federation of Muslims of Indian Origin (AFMI) 2-Day AFMI Convention held at Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Jodhpur with the official appointment of Hyderabad-based Indian American Psychiatrist Dr. Mohammed Khutbuddin as the new president of AFMI in the presence of Union Minister of Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqwi and VC MANUU Jodhpur Prof. Akhtar ul Wasay.

The 2-day international convention threaded AFMI delegates from across the world. Among the participants were Member of National Minority Commission Sardar Mansingh, Sunil Sanghvi, Justice M.S.A. Siddiqui, former President of National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions, AFMI founder-trustee Dr. Abdul Rahman Nakedar (Michigan), and delegates from Ohio, Indiana, Toronto, Las Vegas, Tampa, Orlando (Florida), New York,  Michigan, Birmingham, Sydney, Patna, Hyderabad, Uttar Pradesh, Abdul Khayyum Akhtar Peerzaada IAS (retd.) of Dargah Hazrath Khwaja Mohiuddin Chisti (Ajmer), Dr. Syed Fazil Hussain Parvez, Chief Editor of Gawah Urdu Weekly (Hyderabad) and Dr. Fakhruddin Secretary MESCO among others.

Addressing the convention, Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqwi stressed on the importance of education – one of the key focus areas of AFMI. He said the central government has allotted 70% of the budget for education purpose, and job oriented courses introduced by the government is contributing to empowering more and more students with contemporary industrial skills.  In Hyderabad, according to the Minister, GST Facilitators course has trained nearly 4000 students already. He also pointed out that the government through its sanitation supervisors, youth trained in cleaning and sanitation related courses, have contributed to an increase in employment of the youth.
