Hyderabad, October 6: The Honorary Consul of Germany for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Amita Desai on Sunday appreciated the rich cultural fabric of Hyderabad. She was addressing the gathering on the 37th Founder’s Day celebration of Mukarram Jah School, held on October 6th at the historic Masarath Mahal, Purani Haveli Palace.
The event, commemorating the 91st birthday of late Nawab Mukarram Jah Bahadur, Eighth Titular Nizam of Hyderabad, also marked the launch of a significant book, “The Nizams Sikander Jah, Nasir-ud-Daulah, the Subsidiary Alliance, and the Two Great Indian Rebellions,” authored by His Highness Sultan Ghalib bin Awadh al-Qu’aiti.
Speaking after unveiling the book cover, Ms. Desai praised the work, emphasizing its value in preserving history.
“The oral history encapsulated in the book is majestic, filled with visuals, narratives, and rich information. It helps us figure out where we come from, where we are today, and motivates us to introspect on where we are headed,” she said.
She lauded the book as a “yeoman service to the conservation of history” and called on students and parents to dream big and work towards shaping the world of their dreams.
Ms. Desai, a notable figure in Hyderabad’s cultural circles, has been serving as the Honorary Consul of Germany since 2022, and is the Founder Director of Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad. An alumna of the University of Hamburg, she has also represented the City State of Hamburg since 2012. She is also the Director of Hyderabad Literary Festival.
Known for her dynamism, she has played a key role in shaping city’s cultural landscape over the last two decades, promoting cross-cultural exchange and educational collaborations between India and Germany.
The launch event, hosted at the historic venue, built on vast acres of land donated by Nawab Mukarram Jah for promoting education, was a fitting tribute to Mukarram Jah’s legacy in education and historical preservation undertaken by the eponymous trust.
