Nokia 2360 Flip: New 2G Phone Adds SOS Button, Family Assist and Parental Controls

HMD's Nokia 2360 Flip combines a classic clamshell design with a 2.8-inch screen, a dedicated SOS button and remote Family Assist. Its key India caveat: it supports 2G only, and no India price or sale date has been announced.

HMD has added the Nokia 2360 Flip to its global product range, bringing a clamshell feature phone with a dedicated SOS key, remote family management and parental controls. The device is designed around simple calling and messaging rather than smartphone apps. For Indian buyers, one detail matters before considering it: HMD lists the handset as a 2G-only phone, and an India price or local sale date has not been announced on the product information available at the time of writing.

What is new about the Nokia 2360 Flip?

The Nokia 2360 Flip uses a traditional flip-phone design, with a 2.8-inch main display and a smaller 1.77-inch external screen. The outside display can show caller information without opening the handset. HMD lists three colour options: dark grey, burgundy and teal.

The main features are aimed at people who want a basic phone that family members can help configure, particularly older users and children who do not need a full smartphone.

How does the SOS button work?

HMD says the dedicated SOS button can be held for three seconds to call a pre-set number and send text messages to up to five emergency contacts. The contacts and message can be configured through the Family Assist app.

The manufacturer cautions that the SOS feature does not replace public emergency services. Users should set it up in advance, test the contact details and make sure the people listed know what the alert means.

What is Family Assist?

Family Assist lets a family member manage selected phone settings remotely from a companion smartphone. HMD says the service communicates with the Nokia 2360 Flip through SMS, so the feature phone does not need its own mobile data plan for this function. Standard SMS charges may apply on the device used to manage it.

Depending on the settings, family members can add contacts, set reminders, adjust volume and configure the SOS feature. This may be useful for a senior who finds phone setup difficult, or for a child who needs a basic device for calls.

What parental controls are included?

HMD lists a Family PIN-based parental-control system. Parents can restrict calls and SMS to an approved contact list, block selected apps such as the camera or games, and activate School Mode. In School Mode, the phone is restricted to the clock and emergency calls.

These controls can reduce distractions, but they do not replace parental supervision. Parents should explain who the child can contact, review emergency contacts and check the device settings periodically.

Will the Nokia 2360 Flip work in India?

HMD’s published specification lists 2G GSM bands 900 and 1800 only. It does not list 4G LTE or 5G support. That makes network compatibility the most important question for Indian buyers: a phone that cannot connect to the network used by their SIM will not be useful, regardless of its other features.

Jio’s coverage information lists its mobile services under 4G and 5G technologies. Since the Nokia 2360 Flip is listed as 2G-only, it cannot access those Jio 4G/5G services. For any other operator, check directly whether 2G voice and SMS service is still available in the exact area where the phone will be used.

HMD’s global product page provides specifications but does not show an India price or confirmed Indian retail date. Buyers should wait for an official India listing and warranty information rather than relying on an unverified marketplace listing or imported unit.

Who should consider it?

The phone may interest families looking for a simple calling device for an older relative, or parents who want a restricted handset for a child. The SOS and remote-setup features are useful ideas, but the 2G-only limitation and uncertain India availability need to be weighed first.

It is not a substitute for a modern smartphone. Anyone who needs mobile data, WhatsApp, video calls, app-based payments or 4G/5G connectivity should look for a compatible smartphone or feature phone instead.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Nokia 2360 Flip support 4G or 5G?

No. HMD’s listed specification identifies it as a 2G GSM phone supporting the 900/1800 bands.

Can it use a Jio SIM?

It cannot connect to Jio’s listed 4G/5G services because the handset is 2G-only. Check the operator’s supported network technology before buying any imported unit.

How many people can receive the SOS message?

HMD says the SOS function can text up to five emergency contacts while calling a pre-set number.

Has the India price been announced?

No India price or confirmed local sale date was listed on HMD’s global product information when this article was prepared.
