HYDERABAD: Hyderabad-born technology executive Sudhakar Ramakrishna has taken charge as president and CEO of CDK Global, one of the major technology providers serving the automotive retail industry in the United States.
Ramakrishna assumed the role on October 5, 2026, and has also joined CDK’s board of directors. He succeeds Brian MacDonald, who is retiring and will continue to advise Brookfield and CDK during the transition.
A Hyderabad connection at the top
For Hyderabad, the appointment is notable not simply because a technology executive with roots in the city has reached the top of a global company, but because Ramakrishna’s career has been built across several generations of enterprise technology.
Before joining CDK, he was president and CEO of SolarWinds. He previously led Pulse Secure and held senior leadership positions at Citrix, Polycom, Motorola, 3Com and U.S. Robotics.
What CDK Global does
CDK provides software and technology used by automotive dealerships and other players in vehicle retail. Its products cover areas including dealership management, digital retail, customer relationship management, finance and insurance, service, parts, data and intelligence.
In announcing Ramakrishna’s appointment, CDK said it has invested more than $500 million over several years to evolve its platform from a system of record into a broader system of intelligence and engagement. The company says its platform includes data representing 257 million unique customer IDs.
Why the appointment matters
Ramakrishna’s appointment comes at a time when automotive retail is becoming increasingly dependent on software, data, analytics and artificial intelligence. That makes his background in enterprise technology particularly relevant to CDK’s next phase.
His career is also part of a much larger Hyderabad story. The city has produced and nurtured a growing generation of technology professionals who have gone on to lead major companies and technology organisations around the world.
From Hyderabad to global technology leadership
Ramakrishna’s new role puts a Hyderabad connection at the centre of a company whose technology touches a large part of the US automotive retail ecosystem.
For a city that has built a strong reputation in information technology, global capability centres and software services, stories such as this offer another measure of Hyderabad’s international footprint: not only as a technology delivery hub, but also as a source of global business leadership.
CDK Global announced Ramakrishna’s appointment on August 27, with the transition becoming effective October 5, 2026.
