HYDERABAD, October 15, 2026: India vice-captain Tilak Varma’s return to his home city ended in defeat as the West Indies beat India by 24 runs in the fourth T20 International at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Wednesday. The result levelled the five-match series at 2–2.
Before the match, Varma had described representing India in front of his hometown crowd as a special and proud moment. But the West Indies produced a powerful batting display and a decisive bowling performance to deny India a series-clinching win in Hyderabad.
West Indies set India a demanding target
West Indies captain Shai Hope scored an unbeaten 102 off 50 balls as the visitors posted 247 for three. Sherfane Rutherford remained unbeaten on 49, helping build a late surge that left India needing a demanding run rate throughout the chase.
India’s chase falls short
India made a fast start, with Sanju Samson scoring 56 off 23 balls, but the West Indies struck back through Keemo Paul and Gudakesh Motie. Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy were among the batters tasked with rebuilding the chase, but Paul went on to complete a five-wicket haul as India were dismissed for 223 in 19.3 overs.
The result leaves the series tied 2–2. India had won the first T20I in Lucknow and the third in Indore, while the West Indies won in Ranchi and Hyderabad. The fifth T20I is scheduled for Bengaluru on Saturday, 17 October.
