Hyderabad, July 17: The Ninth Nizam of Hyderabad Nawab Mir Muhammad Azmet Ali Khan, Walashan Azmet Jah Bahadur, and family members of the Amir e Paigah Sir Vicarul Umara presented the traditional Dhatti and Nazrana to the Bibi Ka Alam on 10th day of Moharram (17th July 2024) at Purani Haveli. The Nizam offered Dhatti from the first floor of the Peeli Gate (Yellow Gate) of the Purani Haveli. He was flanked by Nawab Abul Faiz Khan, Trustee, Mukarram Jah Trust for Education and Learning, Nawab Faiz bin Jung and Charminar MLA Mir Zulfikhar Ali Khan.

After offering Nazrana, he interacted with the people and participated in the procession of Bibi ka Alam, which is traditionally carried on the back of an Elephant, Roopavathi.

The tradition of offering Nazrana has been in the Asaf Jahi dynasty for generations. The Seventh Nizam Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan, the Eighth Nizam Nawab Mukarram Jah Bahadur, as well as the earlier Nizams, too offered the Nazrana to the Bibi Ka Alam.

Although Azmet Jah Bahadur has attended the ceremony earlier on different occasions, with his father Mukarram Jah Bahadur, the Eighth titular Nizam of Hyderabad, this is the first time since being ceremonially annointed as the ninth Head of the Asaf Jahi Dynasty after the passing of Mukarram Jah Bahadur in January 2023. This is the first Moharram procession in which Nawab Azmet Jah Bahadur has participated after the passing away of Mukarram Jah Bahadur.
