Mr. Muhammad Hameed Khan, Assistant Director in the Department of Employment and Training, Government of Telangana, retired on October 31, 2026, after completing an illustrious 42-year career marked by dedication, integrity and exemplary service.

A farewell ceremony was organised at the Directorate of Employment and Training, Telangana, at the Government ITI campus, Mallepally, Hyderabad. The ceremony was presided over by Ms. Kanti Wesley, IAS, Director of Employment and Training, Telangana. Mr. P. Narasayya, Deputy Director, also retired on the same day. The Director felicitated Mr. Hameed Khan with a shawl and floral honours and presented his retirement order.

A career spanning four decades

In his farewell address, Mr. Hameed Khan recalled that he began his career on January 21, 1985, as a Technical Assistant at Musheerabad ITI. He was appointed on compassionate grounds following the death of his father, late Mr. Muhammad Ahmed Khan, who passed away while on duty in November 1984.

After serving for three years at Musheerabad ITI, he worked for 11 years at Government ITI Old City, four years at DLTC Girls, Mallepally, and seven years at ITI Mallepally.

In 2009, he was promoted as Principal and posted to Government ITI Anumula, Nalgonda. With a budget of Rs. 7.5 lakh, he secured affiliation from the Directorate General of Training (DGT), New Delhi, for eight of the ten units across five trades, achieving a notable distinction in the state.

Transforming Government ITI Old City

He described his seven-year tenure at Government ITI Old City as one of the most memorable phases of his career. Through his efforts, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) extended CSR assistance of Rs. 3.88 crore, described as the first major CSR project for ITIs in Telangana.

The funds were used for the comprehensive renovation of the institution, construction of new classrooms and workshops, recovery of encroached institutional land and construction of a compound wall.

Expanding industry-academia partnerships

During his six-year tenure as Assistant Director at the Directorate, Mr. Hameed Khan played a significant role in implementing the Dual System of Training (DST) across nearly 90 per cent of government ITIs in Telangana. He also facilitated Memorandums of Understanding with 180 companies to strengthen industry-institute partnerships and employment-oriented skill development.

With support from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) under its CSR initiative, he personally prepared the architectural plan for the newly established Government ITI for Girls at Ghatkesar.

International recognition and renewable energy initiatives

In 2023, the German government, through GIZ Germany, invited him to participate in a week-long programme in Germany focusing on Dual Vocational Education and Training and the promotion of green energy skills. He represented India during the visit.

He also contributed to the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana by facilitating solar technician training for 7,000 young people. The initiative helped Telangana secure fifth position nationally, according to the information shared at the farewell.

A distinguished career in broadcasting

Alongside his government service, Mr. Hameed Khan served as an Urdu News Presenter with Doordarshan Hyderabad from 1992 to 2020, for nearly 28 years. He received several Best News Reader awards in recognition of his work in broadcasting.

Colleagues pay tribute

Concluding his address, Mr. Hameed Khan thanked his colleagues and staff for their cooperation and support. He also sought forgiveness from anyone who might have been inadvertently hurt by his words or actions during his years of service.

The ceremony was attended by Joint Directors S.V. Nagesh and Rekha Rani; Deputy Directors S. Raja, Sitaramulu and Lingya Naik; and Assistant Directors K.V. Chandrasekhar, Bhaskar, Sridhar and Ramesh Babu. Principals, Training Officers, technical and non-technical staff from districts across Telangana, union representatives, retired employees, family members and friends also attended.

Those present appreciated his contributions to vocational education, institutional development, industry partnerships and skill training, and wished him a happy, healthy and fulfilling retired life.
