Free Hijama Therapy Introduced at Nizamia General Hospital

Government Nizama General Hospita Introduces Free Hijama Clinic in collaboration with Helping Hand Foundation

Hyderabad, August 19: A Hijama Clinic offering free of cost therapy was launched at the Government Nizamia General Hospital on Monday. The ‘Hijama’, also known as the ‘cupping therapy’ is a centuries old medical detoxification process using suction cups to drain out blood toxins.

One of the prominent government hospitals in Hyderabad, the Nizamia General Hospital, introduced the Hijama camp in collaboration with eminent healthcare NGO Helping Hand Foundation on August 19, 2019 at the hospital.

Hijama Procedure:

The therapy is a combination of acupuncture and acupressure and uses negative suction to drain out the toxins from the blood using cups. Surgical blades are used to make small cuts on the upper layer of the skin to allow the toxic blood to flow into the disposable cup. Generally, doctors advise 4 to 5 sessions are advised per patient.

Religious Significance:

Hijama was also practised during the times of Islam’s last Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) 1400 years ago and the legacy continues. It is also the Sunnah of the Prophet.

Hijama Benefits:

According to Dr. Ahsan Farooqi, Professor of P.G. Department, General medicine at Government Nizamia General Hospital, the Hijama or cupping therapy is beneficial in 70 and more ailments, it is a major detoxifying process, stress reliever and patients suffering from paralysis, mental disorder, skin diseases, cervical spondylitis, arthritis etc can hugely benefit from the cupping therapy.

Expert Hands:

“The process will be carried out under highly experienced doctors at the hospital. It will be free of cost for patients in a contrast to where private clinics charge between five hundred to a thousand rupees” said Mr. Mujtaba Hasan Askari, of Helping Hand Foundation.

The Hijama clinic was formally launched today at Unani Hospital by Dr Shazadi Sultana, Principal, Nizamia Unani Tibia College in the presence of Dr M.A. Vakil, Superintendent, GNGH and Dr Kavita, RMO, GNGH and Mrs Rizwana Kauser, Manager, SHE team of the Helping Hand Foundation.

Timings:

The Hijama Clinic is accessible on Monday for Male outpatients and on Thursdays for female OP. An exclusive registration counter has been set up at the hospital for appointments according to a release.

On the inaugural day, 15 male patients underwent the Hijama therapy.
