Hyderabad: The third edition of the Grand Seerat Competition–2026 has been announced in Hyderabad, with organisers expanding the initiative to five categories to encourage students, religious scholars, parents and members of the public to study the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The competition is being organised by Seerat House, Lakdi-ka-pul, in association with FOCUS Hyderabad and Anjuman-e-Musalliyan of Shahi Masjid Bagh-e-Aam. The announcement was made at a press conference held on October 29 at the Media Plus Auditorium in Abids by Maulana Dr. Hafiz Ahsan bin Muhammad Al-Hamoomi, founder of Seerat House and Imam and Khatib of Shahi Masjid Bagh-e-Aam.
Maulana Al-Hamoomi said the encouraging response to the previous two editions and requests from the public had prompted the organisers to broaden the competition. The initiative is designed to promote systematic reading and a deeper understanding of the Seerah, particularly among younger generations.
Unlike conventional quiz contests, participants are required to read a prescribed book in its entirety before taking a written examination based exclusively on its contents. The organisers said the format is intended to encourage close reading, comprehension and engagement with authentic literature on the Prophet’s life.
Five categories and prescribed books
The competition has five categories:
- Ulama, Imams and Khutaba: Paighambar-e-Islam by Dr. Muhammad Hamidullah.
- Parents and guardians: For parents and guardians of students of Madrasa Al-Hamoomiya and Madrasa-tul-Quran (Jamia Al-Farooqia); the prescribed book is Tajalliyat-e-Nabuwwat by Maulana Safi-ur-Rahman Mubarakpuri.
- Intermediate students (boys and girls): Seerat-e-Mustafa by Maulana Abdul Mustafa Azmi.
- Degree and postgraduate students: Seerat Course.
- General category: Ar-Raheeq Al-Makhtum.
The examination will be conducted in Urdu, English and Roman script. Participants can choose their preferred language and, after registration, collect the relevant book free of cost from Shahi Masjid at Bagh-e-Aam.
Registration closes on November 10
The last date for registration is November 10, 2026. Participants will then have 50 days to study their prescribed books. The date of the written examination will be announced separately. The paper will consist of questions drawn exclusively from the selected book and will require detailed written answers.
Laptop, tablet and book prizes
Maulana Dr. Muhammad Abdul Aleem, Assistant Professor in the Department of Distance Education at Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), said attractive prizes had been arranged for successful participants. The first prize is a laptop, the second a tablet and the third books worth Rs. 6,000. Prizes will be awarded separately to male and female participants.
He said the competition sought to encourage the study of the Prophet’s life through authentic sources and appealed to scholars, Imams, Khateebs, madrasa heads, teachers and parents to publicise the initiative and motivate students and family members to take part.
Dr. Muhammad Mustafa Ali Sarwari, Associate Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at MANUU, also addressed the press conference. Those present included Maulana Mazhar Hussain Anas Farooqui, Head Teacher of Al-Jamia Al-Farooqia; Maulana Hafiz Syed Jabir Ashraf, Imam of the Secretariat Mosque; and journalist Abdul Rahman Pasha.
