Umeed Portal Deadline Extended by Three Months: Minister Azharuddin

Hyderabad: Telangana State Minority Affairs Minister Mohammad Azharuddin, speaking on the issue of the Umeed (Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development) Portal registration deadline, said that the original deadline of December 5, 2025, could not be met due to genuine administrative and technical challenges. He informed that the State Government had approached the Supreme Court in this regard, following which the matter was directed to the Waqf Tribunal.

The Waqf Tribunal has now granted an extension of three months for the completion of registration on the Umeed Portal.

Explaining the reasons for the delay, the Minister said the key challenges included the scattered availability of historical records, technical impediments in uploading data, and a lack of technical expertise required for filing detailed reports. Despite these hurdles, significant progress has been made.

Out of a total of 63,180 Waqf properties, nearly 70 per cent have already been listed on the Umeed Portal, he said, adding that the extension was sought to ensure accurate and complete registration of all remaining properties.

Telangana State Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir said “we are contemplating to avail services of youngsters familiar with Information Technology to ease the process of application for Waqf caretakers.”
He also lauded minority affairs representatives for handling their responsibilities effectively.

Speaking on the occasion, TMREIS Vice Chairman Faheem Qureshi urged religious scholars, clerics, and the general public to make full use of the extended time period to complete registrations. He also cautioned journalists and media platforms against spreading misinformation regarding Waqf properties and the Umeed Portal, warning that inaccurate reporting could create unnecessary panic among the public.

Meanwhile, Secretary to Government for Minority Welfare, Dr. B. Shafiullah IFS congratulated the team involved in the registration process of Waqf properties. He took the opportunity to dismiss what he termed as ‘propaganda regarding 2,000 vacancies in TMREIS’. He clarified that only 40 vacancies currently exist and said that exaggerated reports about vacancies can adversely affect the morale of students and parents. He advised the public to be cautious and verify information before believing or sharing it.

Telangana Hajj Committee Chairman Syed Afzal Biyabani Khusro Pasha appealed to Waqf property holders and caretakers to provide correct and complete details during registration. He emphasized that proper documentation is essential to safeguard Waqf assets and called upon all concerned to register without fail within the extended deadline.
