Integrated Civil Services Coaching to be Introduced with Degree Programmes; Initiative a First of Its Kind in India
Hyderabad, October 28: The Telangana government on Monday distributed laptops to 50 meritorious students from the Telangana Minorities Residential Educational Institutions Society (TMRIES) who have secured admission to MBBS and engineering courses.
Minister for Minority Welfare A. Laxman Kumar presented the laptops at a felicitation ceremony held for students who recently qualified for various professional courses. Extending his congratulations, the Minister said that the Congress government in Telangana was according top priority to education and taking concrete measures for the upliftment of minorities and backward communities.
Advisor to the Government on SC, ST, BC and Minority Affairs Mohammad Ali Shabbir, TMRIES President Faheem Qureshi, and Secretary of the Department of Minority Welfare Dr. B. Shafiullah were among those present.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shabbir said that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s government had placed education at the core of its development agenda. “The State is establishing new institutions and striving to make Telangana a model for quality education across India,” he said, adding that 1,248 minority students had secured admission to medical colleges this year.
TMRIES President Faheem Qureshi expressed gratitude to the government for providing laptops to the students and said he had personally taken up the request with the Chief Minister.
Dr. B. Shafiullah announced that the State government would soon introduce integrated civil services coaching alongside degree courses, a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country aimed at preparing students for success in national-level competitive examinations. He informed that 205 TMRIES schools had been upgraded into junior colleges, and a proposal had been submitted to establish 20 degree colleges – 10 each for boys and girls – offering both civil services and professional course preparation.
“TMRIES has now become a role model for the entire nation,” Dr. Shafiullah said, noting that several States, including Karnataka, had expressed interest in replicating its education model. He said that the government was committed to eradicating illiteracy and poverty through better facilities and access to education.
Highlighting the importance of quality, discipline, and hygiene in residential schooling, Dr. Shafiullah said that TMRIES institutions were enabling students to become confident and self-reliant. He also announced that the number of Centres of Excellence under TMRIES would be expanded from five to 18, adding that students from these centres had already secured admission to MBBS, engineering, and other professional programmes.
Ms. Safia Begum, in charge of the Barkas Centre, was appointed coordinator for all the Centres of Excellence.
Dr. Shafiullah congratulated the staff for their contribution to TMRIES’s success and appreciated his Personal Secretary Fayaq Naser for his support.
Among those present were Mujtaba Askari of Helping Hand Foundation, Dr. Mohammad Rafeeq, Mohammad Anwar of MS Education, Sadia Alauddin, Mohammad Amjad, and Dr. Syed Fazil Hussain Parvez, besides several other dignitaries.
