Renowned Advocate Syed Adnan Mahmood Passes Away, Leaving Behind a Legacy of Legal Excellence

Hyderabad, July 8, 2023 – The legal fraternity and the people of Hyderabad were left in shock and mourning as news broke of the untimely demise of esteemed senior advocate Syed Adnan Mahmood. Known for his exceptional legal acumen and impressive career, Mahmood’s sudden departure at the age of 68 has left a void that will be hard to fill.

Born on May 17, 1955, Syed Adnan Mahmood hailed from a distinguished and noble family. He was the son of the late Mr. Baqir Mahmood, a highly respected figure associated with various governmental departments, including PWD, Education, and Health.

The Mahmood family epitomises the rich cultural heritage of Hyderabad, with their contributions spanning generations. Adnan’s brother, Imran Mahmood, gained fame as a prominent cricketer, while his sister, Nosheen Baghdadi, is married to Mr. Ghouse Peer.

Adnan Mahmood quickly carved a niche for himself in the legal field, becoming a well-known figure in both Hyderabad and Secunderabad. His educational journey included attending prestigious institutions such as St. Patrick’s High School for Matriculation, Madrasa-i-Aliya for Intermediate, and Sardar Patel College and Osmania University from where he graduated as an LLB.

He started practising from lower courts and quickly established himself as a formidable lawyer handling some of the most important cases within the Muslim community in both the State’s High Court and the Supreme Court of India. For over 45 years, he practised diligently, leaving behind an unforgettable legacy.

Throughout his illustrious career, Adnan Mahmood earned a reputation as one of the finest legal minds in the region. His accomplishments at a young age were nothing short of remarkable, and his rise to prominence was both enviable and commendable. His expertise in handling high-profile cases, including those of a political nature, positioned him as a sought-after advocate. He was known for his flair in the courtroom and his remarkable ability to represent eminent personalities and businesses, including families and organisations of regal descent.

He represented the H.E.H. Nizams Auqaf Committee, L. V. Prasad Eye Hospital for over 30 years, many cases of the Zoroastrian community for which he was deeply admired by the community alongside several charitable and social welfare.

Adnan Mahmood’s contributions extended beyond his professional achievements. He was actively involved in legal battles related to land reclamation, particularly in the context of Hyderabad’s royal families. His dedication to reclaiming occupied land and his commitment to justice made him a champion for the rights of the people.

The news of Adnan Mahmood’s passing sent shockwaves through the legal and social circles. He is survived by a wife, four sons and a daughter. His eldest son Zeeshan Mahmood and youngest son Amaan have been practising law following in the footsteps of their father while the second son Farhan and third son Nabhan are entrepreneurs.
