Hyderabad: Mohammed Yusuf Ali, a 46-year-old Hyderabad resident who was injured in an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh while travelling with his family for Umrah, has died, according to Indian officials and multiple media reports. The Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia has said it is in contact with the family and will assist with the repatriation of his mortal remains.

Ali was from Mehdipatnam in Hyderabad and was travelling with family members as part of an Umrah journey, reports by The Indian Express and Telangana Today said. Family members were also injured in the incident. Details about individual injuries and their current conditions have varied across early reports; the latest information from the embassy should take precedence.

Embassy says injured Indians are receiving assistance

In updates following the October 10 attack, the Embassy of India in Riyadh said it had contacted local authorities and hospitals to check on injured Indian nationals. The embassy later confirmed the death of one Indian national, expressed condolences and said it would provide support to the family, including help with repatriation.

According to reporting published on October 12, three injured Indians remained in intensive care but were stable, while two others were being treated in regular hospital wards. Other injured Indian nationals had been discharged, the reports said. The embassy has urged Indians in Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant and follow instructions from local authorities.

Attack at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport

The incident took place at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on October 10, amid a series of attacks targeting airports and other sites in Saudi Arabia. International reports said the attack caused multiple deaths and injured more than 300 people. Saudi authorities and the Saudi-led coalition have attributed the attacks to Yemen’s Houthi movement; responsibility and details should be reported with attribution to the relevant authorities and reporting.

The Indian government condemned attacks targeting civilian infrastructure. In its official statement, the Embassy of India expressed condolences for those killed and wished those injured a speedy recovery.

Family travelling for Umrah

Ali was travelling with his family for the pilgrimage, according to reports citing relatives and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi. The family was reportedly waiting to continue its journey when the attack occurred. Owaisi said he had contacted the family and sought assistance from Indian authorities.

GAWAH has not independently confirmed all details of the family’s injuries. The report will be updated if the embassy or family representatives provide further verified information.
