India defeated Bangladesh by five wickets in the 11th-place play-off at the Hong Kong Sixes 2026 on Sunday, chasing a target of 117 in a six-over innings at Mission Road Ground, Mong Kok. Shashank Singh led the chase with a rapid 50 from 15 balls as India finished on 117/1 after Bangladesh had posted 116/5.
The result gave India a win in the tournament’s 11th-place match, following a difficult previous day in which the side lost to the United Arab Emirates and then narrowly to England. This was a Hong Kong Sixes contest, a short-format six-a-side tournament, not a regular bilateral India-Bangladesh T20 International.
How did India chase Bangladesh’s 116?
Shashank Singh set the tempo with 50 off 15 deliveries, including seven sixes. He retired hurt after reaching the half-century, but India were already well placed. Rahul Tripathi added 32 from 12 balls, while Nitish Rana (10 not out from four) and Rahul Tewatia (16 not out from five) completed the chase.
India reached 117/1 in six overs, finishing the target without needing an additional delivery. The scorecard records Bangladesh at 116/5 in its six overs.
Who stood out for Bangladesh?
Abu Hider provided the biggest contribution for Bangladesh, scoring an unbeaten 62 from 18 balls, with eight sixes and three fours. Habibur Sohan made 18 from six deliveries. Despite the late hitting, Bangladesh’s total was just short of what India needed to chase in the compressed format.
Why was Krunal Pandya named Player of the Match?
India captain Krunal Pandya was named Player of the Match after taking three wickets for 25 runs, according to the published match scorecard. His contribution with the ball helped restrict Bangladesh before India’s batters completed the chase.
What is the Hong Kong Sixes?
The Hong Kong Sixes is a fast-paced six-a-side cricket tournament in which teams play shortened innings. It is distinct from the standard 20-over T20 International format. The 2026 edition ran from October 30 to November 1 at Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok, with teams competing across the Cup, Bowl and Plate brackets and associated placement matches.
