The simplicity and grounded nature of Hamdard Laboratories (India) CEO and President of UDMA, Hamed Ahmed, left a lasting impression during his recent visit to Hyderabad. A fourth-generation custodian of the iconic Hamdard legacy, Ahmed was seen personally assisting with event arrangements, moving among organisers without any entourage, and standing quietly on stage with no trace of pomp or show, a refreshing contrast in an age of corporate flamboyance.

Throughout the programme, his unassuming gestures spoke louder than words. While others were speaking, he listened attentively and applauded warmly. In one moment that especially caught attention, when a speaker’s notes slipped and scattered mid-speech, Ahmed, who could easily have signalled staff to intervene, quietly stepped down from his chair, gathered the papers, and handed them back with respect.
Ahmed also spoke with conviction about the urgent need to bring Unani medicine in line with global standards, innovation, and evidence-based practices. He highlighted UDMA’s ongoing initiatives to elevate the sector’s credibility and international reach.
Hamed Ahmed holds a Master’s degree in Leadership & Management from the University of Leeds, UK, and serves as Director on the boards of Hamdard National Foundation (India) and Hamed Ahmed Charitable Trust. He is also the CEO of Hamdard Foods, guiding its global growth while preserving heritage.
Founded in 1906 by Hakeem Hafiz Abdul Majeed in Old Delhi as a small Unani clinic, Hamdard has long stood on principles of healing and service. A major portion of its profits supports education, community health, and humanitarian work through the Hamdard National Foundation.
As the head of a company, according to some reports, nearing ₹1,000 crore in scale, Ahmed’s humility was as refreshing as Rooh Afza, embodying the tehzeeb, service, and humanity that define the Hamdard spirit.
