The All India Milli Council Telangana has raised concerns about the gap between formal education and character-building, urging families to give greater attention to the values children learn at home.

The message emerged at a one-day workshop for women titled Islam Samjhiye (“Understand Islam”), organised by the council on October 18, 2026, at the All India Milli Council Telangana office in Shaheen Nagar, Hyderabad. Speakers addressed family upbringing, women’s role in society and the importance of understanding Islamic teachings rather than following them only as inherited practice.

Zafar Masood, acting president of the council, said parents can become so focused on their children’s education and future livelihoods that they neglect upbringing. He urged women to play an active role in building strong families and character, and spoke about managing anger, using social media carefully, respecting relationships and reading Islamic literature.

Mufti Umar Abideen Qasmi Madani, the council’s general secretary, described Islam as a comprehensive guide to life whose teachings remain unchanged and are aligned with human nature. He stressed the need to understand one’s faith consciously, rather than relying solely on what has been inherited.

Advocate Afsar Jahan, who delivered the vote of thanks, urged women to make Islam an agenda in their lives, dedicate time to community work and set clear priorities.

Ayesha Zariyat, an Islamic Studies teacher at VIP International School, highlighted women’s contributions and leadership across Islamic history. She said Islam safeguards women’s dignity and grants them freedom, challenging narrow assumptions about women’s place in society.

The workshop brought together more than 60 girls and women.
