Hyderabad, Telangana’s Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar has issued a strong appeal to the public, urging them to exercise caution when forwarding messages or videos on social media platforms. Speaking at the valedictory session of the “Countering Disinformation for Urdu TV Journalists” training program organized by Osmania University in association with the US Consulate General Hyderabad, DGP Anjani Kumar highlighted the potential consequences of spreading unverified information.

Hailed as one of the most successful Police commissioners of Hyderabad, Kumar emphasized that fake news has the potential to disrupt social harmony and incite violence, and hence, it is imperative to verify the authenticity of messages before forwarding them.

He stressed that individuals should refrain from participating in the trend of indiscriminate message forwarding, as it could have far-reaching implications on society.

The training program, which successfully trained thirty-seven Urdu journalists in fact-checking techniques, aimed to empower journalists with the skills needed to combat disinformation in the media landscape. Experts from various fields conducted lectures and workshops, educating participants about the importance of accurate reporting and responsible information dissemination.

DGP Anjani Kumar’s call for vigilance in the face of disinformation aligns with the broader efforts of the US Consulate General Hyderabad and Osmania University to strengthen the integrity of journalism and uphold democratic values.
