Elgin Academy to Become New Hub for Islamic Education Under Burhan Academy
Elgin, IL — The century-old Elgin Academy, a prestigious educational institution in the suburbs of Illinois, has long been a beacon of academic excellence, serving the elite American community for over a century. Renowned for its rich history of producing outstanding achievers, the Academy has been a center for quality education. The Academy shutdown its operations in November last year, after imparting education for over 185 years, with the combined strength, according to a report, standing at just 185 students from kindergarten to high school.
This historic institution is now set to enter a new chapter as it has been acquired by a group of dedicated scholars: Mufti Yassir Nadeem Wajdi, Dr. Mohammad Tajammul Hussain, and Dr. Hamid Nazeer. The group has ambitious plans to establish Burhan Academy, an institution that will blend academic excellence with a robust Islamic curriculum.
Speaking to GAWAH, Dr. Mohammed Tajammul Hussain said “Burhan Academy’s mission is to integrate tazkiyah (spiritual purification) and tarbiyah (moral education) into the curriculum, aiming to instill Islamic values in the next generation.”
“The Academy aspires to produce leaders who embody the true representation of Islam and contribute positively to society”, he said.
The project has garnered support from prominent Islamic scholars, including Imam Omar Suleiman, who emphasized the importance of such initiatives in today’s challenging times. In a recent statement, Imam Suleiman highlighted the potential of Burhan Academy to inspire and develop future leaders by merging high-quality academics with Islamic tradition.
Spread over expansive acres of land in the Elgin area, the Academy boasts multiple buildings equipped with state-of-the-art furniture, laboratory equipment, and a well-stocked library. Its facilities include an auditorium complete with modern sound and light systems, a massive gymnasium, and extensive sports facilities.
As Burhan Academy embarks on this transformative journey, the team is seeking the community’s prayers and financial support. The goal is to raise $1,000,000 to fully realize this vision, with a target of 300 donors contributing $5,000 each.
